Every year, starting in about mid-September, the rice harvest in Hokkaido begins. 150 years ago, attempts at growing delicious rice in Hokkaido, were not successful. Through many years of experimenting with different strains of rice plants and farming methods, Hokkaido nowadays grows some of the most delicious rice in all of Japan. Hokkaido rice is very popular nationwide for it's low price and its good taste, even if eaten cold. The Harvest Days of Hokkaido, are a time of celebration for everyone who lives in Japan.
